PBOB is a non-for-profit charity that organises events with local schools and communities to help fund children’ musical education programs. The main event is the annual Parents Battle Of the Bands.
This came about because in the bay area of Melbourne, suburbs around St Kilda have parents bands in their local primary schools, and the idea was to create a community and fundraising event to raise money for music programs that can be accessed by all children in participating schools. This year is our 4th Parents Battle of the Bands and the event continues to grow with more bands and schools participating.
Each band plays for 15-20 minutes. A jury of local celebs and musicians decides on the winner based on 7 different categories related to the performance. There is a healthy banter and build up to who takes the trophy, but the real winner is the band that draws the biggest crowd—the raised money gets distributed proportionally to the attendance for each school. Each school is encouraged to promote the event and sell tickets.

Self-esteem, confidence, motor skills & literacy, memory & focus, social skills, emotional health and creativity are major benefits that seep into adulthood. Nothing compares to the feelings you experience at a live gig, when playing with or for people, singing in a choir or around a campfire. It’s a unique connection with other humans.
We are looking for inspiring Australian artists and people in the music industry who have benefited from music education and would like to contribute to raising the profile of this community event. Your presence would have a significant impact in legitimising the “competition” artistically. More importantly, the more tickets we sell, the more funds we raise for the schools. Help us activate our local community to participate in and support their children’s music education as well as revive the local venues.
